This tour is provided by one of the top rated tour companies in the city and each of the experienced tour guides makes your enjoyment and safety their top priority. No matter which direction your carriage goes, you are sure to hear insightful tidbits of local lore, gain a new perspective on Southern culture, and share in the humor and wonder of this city's rich history.
Time permitting, you will be able to do a little shopping in the Old City Market, an open air market in four buildings. The market dates back to 1841 and originally sold foodstuffs, including meat, fish and fresh produce grown locally. Today, more than 100 vendors sell everything from local foods to souvenirs. The kitsch factor runs high (serious shoppers may have better luck on King Street). The Old City Market is a lively spot, often teeming with tourists and can be difficult to navigate at peak hours. The most celebrated residents are the ladies who weave and sell sweet-grass baskets. The craft of basket-weaving, passed down from West African slaves, is considered one of Charleston's most vibrant traditions.
Carolina Belle Sightseeing Cruise
From the Old City Market, you will take a short bus ride to Charleston Maritime Center where you will board the Carolina Belle, a USCG certified vessel. Your licensed captain narrates a relaxing, and insightful tour of the harbor. This tour is rated one of the best ways to discover the Holy City and view its famous Harbor.
Among the sights you will see on this cruise are:
- Fort Sumter - One of Charleston's most popular landmarks, where the first shots of the Civil War were fired
- Confederate and Union army Forts Moultrie and Johnson
- USS Yorktown - the famous World War II "Fighting Lady"
- St. Michael's Episcopal Church - A survivor of both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, whose steeple was painted black so as not to be an easy target
- Stately homes on the Battery - Symbols of Southern elegance and perseverance
- Cooper River Bridges - including the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, a state-of-the-art span that accommodates the largest ships in the world
- Dolphins skimming the surface of the water and pelicans diving for food
A deli-style box lunch (included in ticket price) will be served during the cruise. The lunch includes a sandwich of turkey or ham on artisan breads (sandwiches are distributed on a first-come first-served basis), gourmet chips, a fresh fruit cup, and a fresh baked cookie. You are also provided with a fountain drink. A vegetarian option is also available, but must be requested on the Order Form.
Boone Hall Plantation
The last stop on your exciting adventure is a stop at Boone Hall Plantation, one of the South Carolina's greatest treasures. Boone Hall is also one of America's oldest working, living plantations, continuously growing and producing crops for over 320 years. You'll be able to explore the historic brick slave cabins, a smoke house, and a cotton gin. Costumed hostesses will greet you at the mansion and provide guided tours of the first floor. You'll see the butterfly garden and take pleasure in viewing antique roses, camellias and other native South Carolina plants. There is also a unique gift shop with plantation treasures.
A late afternoon departure from the plantation gets you back to Myrtle Beach at approximately 6:00 pm.

The City Market is mostly enclosed, but you will have to walk outside from store to store, so please bring an umbrella if the forecast calls for rain. The Harbor Boat Tour has a glassed-in, enclosed observatory and the upper deck is also partially covered, so the boat goes out in moderate rain. Lastly, Boone Hall Plantation includes a tour of the inside first floor, so you'll still get a great look at one of America’s oldest plantations.

The Carolina Belle is a steady 80-foot vessel and the Charleston Harbor has a mild atmosphere. It is unlikely that you will feel much movement aboard the boat. If you often feel seasick, you may want to consider some light medication before beginning the trip. We cannot officially advise you to take any medication, however. Please consult your physician.
Can I leave the group and explore Charleston on my own?
You are not able to leave the group and meet up with the bus later, as it is very important that the bus driver is able to keep track of the entire group.
